Why living as a MINIMALIST will make your life BETTER & BRIGHT

A GREATER SENSE OF SELF: YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR POSSESSIONS

Life is more than those fancy possessions
After spending most of my Sunday cleaning my overloading wardrobe, my dressing room, and my shoe rack, I happened to get some time for a walk in the evening. I met a neighbor during that 30 minutes walk and stuck up a conversation with her. We both shared the same facts that more than half of our Sunday had been wasted taking care of things we owned. Though we didn't end up being involved in a long conversation, it was spiced up enough to introduce me to the idea of minimalism. She clearly explained the meaning by saying that there is more amount of joy to be found in owning lesser than what we own.

Actually, it didn't take her much effort to convince me about the concept as  I already have the idea from my mom who constantly pokes me for owning too much stuff. Often my mom is always after getting rid of anything and everything that was there in my room and I didn’t need it. To this end, living with less is always sampled. Many times, the word minimalism brought a negative connotation to me and my mates. The fact being living as a minimalist means you are sacrificing things. Really? This is perfectly a wrong perception that we all have in our mind and we need to learn about what minimalism really is.

What is Minimalism?

Being a minimalist is a state of mind. Actually, it means you have more of what you need. Some people believe it to be living a life in the woods without the conveniences of the world. Those who are living the same way are living by their means but minimalism is something that is not to be taken that far. Minimalism can be utilized in many other ways and do not require any real sacrifices.

FIRST STEP TOWARDS MINIMALISM
I hope with the introduction you are pretty much convinced that living a minimalistic life does make sense. But what is the next step? It is quite simple. There are simple steps you can do to begin a minimalistic lifestyle.

  • Discard clothes you don’t wear anymore
  • Remove the small extra things in your room
  • Digitalize everything
  • Downsize your car if it's out of your budget
  • Prioritize your tasks and commitments
  • Develop a minimalistic approach towards food and relationships
These little things are good to start and you can see how these will benefit you in many ways that you might not be aware of. The decision should come from within to live with less. Try to create space for family and friends and see how it influence the rest of your life. When you make room for just the necessary things, you will soon make room for joy. To help you be more convinced, here are a few benefits of living a minimalist life:

Lesser things to worry about

When you start decluttering your home, you will find your mind being more focused and less distracted. Of Course, when you have plenty of things going around in your mind, your performance will be affected just as when you open multiple tabs at once and there is a slight difference in the performance of your computer. Our brain function will be affected similarly resulting in a slower response. So, practicing minimalism will draw our focus on the important tasks and we will be left with lesser things to worry about and the happier we will be.

Confidence and Contentment

Living a minimalist style will allow us all to undeniably identify our priorities and use them to direct us to a happy life. To live a life full of contentment you need to understand what your value is, what are things that matter the most to you in life and let go off things that hold you back. Be confident enough to pursue your passions, bring things to life that are useful and live a life with intention and purpose.

Adjust priorities

Embracing minimalism will make you realize that life is much more than hating Mondays. If you really do not want to waste your life hating Mondays, paying bills, waiting for weekends and working late night, start living a minimalist life truly. It will always make you remember what is important for you in life: laughing with family and friends, exploring, falling in love and much more. Minimalism will truly help you to remove the distractions and realize the essence of life.

Play the comparison game

We mostly spend our thinking of things we do not own and fail to appreciate the things we own. Nobody is going to talk about at our funeral what technology you carried in your pocket and what expensive shoes you wore. We are constantly comparing what others have and strive for things trying to impress others and ignore the joy right in front of us.

Live more with less. It’s completely your choice. Clear the external space and give more space for internal serenity. Be curious and daring to be a beginner minimalism, get back if you fall, draw focus to yourself instead of your possessions, and you will see your lifestyle change.
